Hello @dreabene, we're happy to hear that you are wanting to join the AT&T family.
All customers are eligible to apply for service. Information required to process an application for credit may be different depending on the product line. You may be listed as having unknown credit. Depending on the service you’re signing up for security may be required. If you are unable to process your request online, you may be able to go in store to complete set up of new service.
- Have you completed the ID verification process? We use ID verification to confirm the identity of a person who wants to get new service or manage their current service. Use your mobile device to take a picture of the front and back of an acceptable form of ID. This security step will help us make sure you're really you
Keep in mind the requirements as well for a Credit Evaluation:
- AT&T requires a credit check when ordering new products (Wireless lines, U-verse TV, Internet and Phone).
- Credit checks using information pulled from your AT&T service history and credit bureaus are a soft credit check instead of a hard credit check which means it does not impact credit scores.
- The results of the credit evaluation and the cost of the device will determine if security (down payment, advance payment, Credit Management Fee or deposit) is required.
- Guarantors or co-signers for credit applications are not accepted by AT&T.
- In order to consent to a credit check and service activation with AT&T, potential individual customers must meet the minimum age requirementof 18. Puerto Rico age of consent would be 21.
We're here if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

This is the biggest crop of crap I have ever had to deal with. I have my credit frozen to protect my identity. It is a pain in the but to unfreeze and refreeze credit just to purchase something using a credit card. Your excuse is you want to be sure I do not owe you any money. You should be able to do that with a few strokes of the keyboard using my name, address and phone number. No one else wants to do a credit check to allow me to use my credit card.

They run credit checks when you buy a phone on an installment plan, and/or sign up for service. If you chose the have your credit file frozen, then they aren’t aren’t going to be able to do the credit check unless you give permission. If you bought the phone on installments, they definitely will run a credit check. Even if you paid full price for the phone, they will run a check for the service.
