What Is the Advantage of Travel Insurance? (2024)

What Does Travel Insurance Include?

Seven Corners Trip Protection plans provide insurance benefits. With the right coverage, you can protect the money you spent for your trip if you need to cancel, interrupt, or delay your trip, or medical expenses if you become ill or injured while traveling.

The insurance benefits in our Trip Protection plans give you three main types of coverage.

1. Protection for trip costs

First, there is protection for your unused and nonrefundable insured trip costs if you need to cancel, interrupt, or delay your trip due to a covered reason.

Examples of covered reasons for trip cancellation and trip interruption can include your death, sickness or injury or a family member’s death, sickness, or injury. Other examples can include inclement weather and terrorist incidents. There are many other covered reasons in our Trip Protection plans. Additional terms apply, and we recommend reading your plan document, so you understand what’s covered.

2. Protection for your health

Trip insurance can also protect your medical expenses if you get hurt or sick on your trip. Your U.S. health insurance may not follow you to another country. Even if it does offer coverage for international travel, it may be limited. This is why travel insurance is often encouraged when traveling abroad. The Seven Corners Trip Protection Basic plan provides secondary coverage, meaning it pays benefits after any valid primary insurance plan, which may include your U.S. health insurance, pays.

For example, if your primary health insurance paid part of your medical expenses outside the U.S., we would review the unpaid items, including items not paid due to your primary health insurance’s deductible, and pay those covered by the Trip Protection Basic plan.

The Seven Corners Trip Protection Choice plan provides primary coverage for accident and sickness medical expenses.* That means we are the first payor for covered medical expenses.

For example, if you required medical treatment during your trip that could be covered under either your Trip Protection Choice plan or your domestic health insurance, you would make a claim on your Seven Corners Trip Protection Choice plan. We would review all items and reimburse you for expenses covered by your Trip Protection Choice plan, without you filing a claim with your domestic health insurance. Coverage under Trip Protection Choice applies if the covered expenses incurred are within the plan’s medical expense coverage limits. This would most likely simplify the claim process for you.

Additionally, if you become sick or hurt with a condition that’s severe, acute, or life-threatening during your trip, and appropriate medical care is not available at your location, the plan contains an emergency medical evacuation benefit that covers the cost to transport you to a location with appropriate care. Seven Corners Assist must arrange this transportation after authorizing the evacuation.

3. Protection for your belongings

Third, trip insurance can protect your belongings if they’re lost, stolen, or damaged while traveling.

You can also be reimbursed for the purchase of necessary personal items if your bags are delayed for six or more consecutive hours.

Travel assistance services

Seven Corners Assist, our multilingual team, provides 24/7 non-insurance travel assistance services. They can help with travel needs such as finding a doctor or the nearest embassy, as well as arranging emergency medical evacuations and repatriations, as mentioned above.
