Know the red flags that signal a scam
Never click a link or download an attachment from someone you don't know. Bank of America will never text, email or call you asking for personal or account information.
Bank of America often sends messages from SMS short numbers for alerts, but we will never ask you for personal or financial information in a text message. Verify any phone number that appears in a text message.
Here are some short codes for fraud and security alerts used by some major banks: Chase: 28107, 36640, 72166. Bank of America: 322632 (credit card security), 39989 (debit card security), 96264 (small business credit card), 86006 (check fraud), 55983 (banking security), 56433 (account takeover), 80814 (Zelle)
Contact your bank to find out the short codes it uses for texting. If you receive a text claiming to be from your bank but it uses a different short code, the text is fraudulent. Beware of texts that provide email addresses or phone numbers and ask you to respond.
Banks rarely text their customers out of the blue. Every fraud SMS is an attacker trying to trick you into clicking on a malicious link that will install malware on your device or direct you to a fake website.
Phone. You may receive a call from the " Northeast Credit Union Fraud Detection Center" (800-262-2024 or 833-735-1894). Follow the prompts to verify the transaction or start resolving fraud.
By telephone: Call 844.401. 8500 (option 2) Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-11 p.m. or Sat-Sun 8 a.m.-8 p.m. (all times ET).
Valid numbers for this vendor our fraud monitoring vendor, Enfact, are 1-833-735-1894 for calls and 1-833-735-1892 for texts or SMS 37268. At Northwest Bank, your security is our priority.
WSFS Card Fraud Alerts – Short Code: 86975
The text message will include WSFS Bank's name, the last four digits of your account number, and information about the suspicious transaction which triggered the fraud alert. Additionally, it will provide you with options to confirm the activity as valid or as unrecognized.
What is 53849 text?
For help or information regarding text messaging, text HELP to 53849 or contact our customer service at 800. 933.6262 for consumer accounts and 866.758. 5972 for small business accounts.
(800) 317-6345 is a Financial Robocall.
For select Citi cards, you'll receive a text message from short code 95686 if the issuer detects unusual activity. The issuer has a $0 liability policy for unauthorized transactions with consumer cards.
Depending on your custom alerts, Bank of America may send you confirmation messages when you make or receive payments. Unlike scammers, however, they will not ask you to respond “yes” or “no” to confirm or deny a transaction, nor will they have you follow a link to input your personal information.
Contact the bank, government agency, or company that the scam artist is impersonating so it can alert others and work with law enforcement to investigate the activity. Forward smishing messages to short code 7726—which spells “SPAM” on your keypad.
Contact your bank to report and stop unauthorized automatic withdrawals from your account. Forward phishing emails to the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@apwg.org. If you got a phishing text message, forward it to SPAM (7726).
Enter Authorization Code
To verify your identity, we need to provide you an authorization code. Call 800.933. 6262 to get the code. The code expires 10 minutes after you request it.
You can opt in for alerts 1 about your balance, deposits, transfers, or any unusual activity and more. Plus you'll be notified even when you are not logged in. Get started: Click the blue circle or go to the next step to explore this digital feature.
Never send your full bank account number (or any other private information, like your password or PIN) via text message. Check text messages for your bank's unique short code, the "return address" phone number that identifies official messages.
Look up their official contact details to verify the number. Check messages for spelling errors or incorrect details. Block a number if they persistently call you or engage in suspicious behaviour. If you have friends or relatives abroad.
How do you know if a number is not a scammer?
Some red flags to look out for when checking if a phone number belongs to a scammer include receiving unexpected calls or texts requesting personal information or money, receiving multiple calls from different numbers with similar area codes, and being pressured to act quickly or keep information confidential.
If you see "Suspected spam caller" or "Spam" as the caller ID, the call might be spam. You can answer the call, or block and report the number.
Contact us at 800.432.1000.
Fraud prevention tip: Do not provide access codes, personal and financial information via email, text or to unsolicited callers. Bank of America will never call you to ask you for this information. If you receive an email or text from Bank of America and you're unsure if it's real, don't click on any links.
So, if you receive a text message from an 833 area code, keep in mind that it may just be a scam artist or telemarketing company. Such individuals use texts to determine whether or not your personal number is still active and if there's a chance you'll call them back.
